A week in Bali

I escaped much of the tourist havens early on the trip. A few days into my week vacation in Bali and I already saw so much beauty. This island is truly alluring and beautiful as everyone says. I was impressed with the spectacular mountain scenery, beautiful beaches and friendly people and out of this world resorts! In Bali, time perceptibly slows down.  This alluring sense of timelessness is one of the island’s most legendary qualities. Here, I felt I could really unwind and take this trip at a slow pace. I only planned to stay for a week and I felt I had all the time in the world to explore the best places. I woke up every morning with the view of the pristine beach and blue sky. I spent almost every day viewing the changing colours of the sunset. It’s just so refreshing to be surrounded in nature, to an interesting culture and amazing food, to seemingly progressive people and lots of learning opportunities (I’ve never seen so many yoga and meditation class advertisements). Yes, it’s a bit hippie, but I think that adds to its charm. It’s certainly a break well deserved and not the last time I’ll be looking up at the blue skies in Bali.
So, here are my best places to visit in Bali:

Ubud

Known as the center for traditional crafts and dance, Ubud is an amazing village with an astonishing view of a rainforest, terraced rice paddies, dotted with Hindu temples and shrines, are among Bali’s most iconic landscapes. Apart from the culture, Ubud is also home to good restaurants, cafes and streets of shops, many selling goods from the region’s artisans.

Sekumpul Waterfall

is touted as the most beautiful waterfall in Bali. To see Sekumpul Waterfall close, it takes a bit of effort and struggle.  You have to descend hundreds of steps are steep in some places and crossed the river. Should you wear shorts and sandals (shoes without rights) were comfortable when visiting Niagara Sekumpul because you have to cross the river a fairly deep to get in front of the waterfall. It needs a bit of effort to reach this beautiful waterfall. However, my struggle paid off when I got near the waterfall is 80 meters high. The pounding sound of water falling and splashing water bercipratan creating a serene and soothing. Shady trees around the falls makes the atmosphere more cool and beautiful.

Tanah Lot

Tanah Lot Temple is one of Bali’s most important landmarks, famed for its unique offshore setting and sunset backdrops. Although you cannot enter the temple grounds, the panoramic views and cultural offerings are highlights to enjoy.

Uluwatu Temple

This spectacular temple is one to marvel with as it perched at the edge of the rock overlooking the sea as if on guard. Visit with caution and carry a stick as you tour the temple to keep the ‘thieving monkeys’ at bay and heed all warnings that they will steal any lose items off your person in the blink of an eye. Actually I won’t limit items to “lose” items. Do Not Test them! You will lose, but this is all part of the travel experience!

Kintamani and Mount Batur

The view is the main reason to come here. Surrounded by the captivating nature of Mount Batur, you will find plenty more reasons to linger in the crater itself, and be sure to also take in the joyous winding road along the lake shore to Toya Bungkah, Pura Ulan Danu Batur, or even the hot springs.
Kintamani area actually consists of 3 main villages including Penelokan, Batur, and Kintamani. There are also some ancient villages around Batur Lake which is often known as Bali Age Village. Penelokan is the vantage point at the southernmost of the crater rim. You will see a fantastic spectacle as you come over the ridge at Penelokan and gaze down in wonder at the twin caldera of Lake Batur.

Nusa Lembongan

is one of three small offshore islands of Bali which is the perfect place for water sports. Just a 30 minute boat ride away, and you’ll be a world away from the hassle and hectic pace of  south Bali  This is a fine place to just put your feet up and relax. Main activities include surfing, diving and snorkeling. The water is some of the clearest you will find anywhere, and a vivid aqua blue in colour.

Ever been to a place and never wanted to go home? Do tell 🙂
