The most anticipated part of the Burma trip: Bagan, Bagan, Bagan.

Definitely a trip of a lifetime. Bagan is one of the world’s greatest archeological sites, a sight to rival Angkor Wat, but without the visitors. The setting is just sublime. I woke 5.30 am just to catch the sunrise and it was damn worth it. Never had I seen an unsullied heritage site such as Burma. Being atop this piece of architectural heritage is one of those rare moments in your life that you cannot explain to anyone else who hasn’t really been there and the pictures only give you a partial idea of what you see. The plains of Bagan are home to around 2200 temples, stupas and pagodas of varying shapes and sizes. In the 13th century, there were over 4000 temples, stupas and pagodas, many of which were covered in gold giving visitors of the day a not-so subtle clue as to the kingdom’s wealth and power. Being in Bagan I could only imagine what it would have been like in the 13th century but enough temples remain to provide an amazing spectacle. One of the highlights of a visit to Myanmar and most memorable for its tranquillity and the sheer scale of it all.
