Good Morning Hanoi Tour

In Hanoi and want to see something different other than Hanoi’s Old Quarter?

I woke up as early as 4 am for the Good Morning Hour Tour, which gave me a chance to witness the hustle-bustle of Hanoi at first light of day and the local culture.

As the day dawned,  I saw a community come to life with a scooter ride through Hanoi’s vibrant Old Quarter to the markets. I witnessed residents, vendors & shopkeepers preparing for the day as my guide gave narratives on aspects of local life.

See below for my experience during the Good Morning Tour with Madam Linh’s Travel Agency.

1.  Pick up from Hotel at 4.30 am

2. Start the tour at Long Bien Market

3. Quang Ba Flower Market.

4.  Stop at Ba Dinh Square,

5. Breakfast at a local Vietnamese Pho restaurant

6. Around 8.00 a.m, your tour guide will see you off at your hotel! End of Tour.

I set out from the Old Quarter at 4.30 am with my first stop at Long Bien Market. Located next to Long Bien bridge, and alongside dyke road, the market is teeming with fruit and vegetable wholesale wholesalers.

Be sure to come in the very early hours of the morning, when the market is at its busiest. Stallholders from the local wet markets, restaurants and other businesses visit to stock up. Fruit and vegetable deliveries come in from the Vietnamese countryside arriving in trucks and ready to unload.

A walk along Yen Phu ( the main road) will give you a snippet into market life and a unique experience to remember.  The morning market is hardly a tourist attraction, but a visit to Hanoi’s chaotic market is a fascinating exposure to the life of the local people.

Quang Ba Flower Market

Quang Ba Flower Market

Quang Ba Flower Market

My early morning to Quang Ba Flower Market in Hanoi was so much more than just flowers, it’s a unique glimpse into local life.

This market is unlike any other markets you’ve visited before. Particularly days leading up to Tet, it transforms into a bustling garden, full of vibrant colors and a festive spirit.

The best time to visit the flower market is around 5 am when vendors put up their best flowers.

Quang Ba Flower Market

Florists, vendors, photographers, and flower lovers will come browsing through the market. Even young couples seeking a romantic atmosphere will walk around enjoying the colors and aroma.

Quang Ba Flower Market

Quang Ba Flower Market serves mostly as a commercial market, supplying to floral shops and individual buyers. Flowers are used often as offerings in temples, ancestral worship and to decorate homes and offices.

So don’t be surprised to see the market crowded during Tet, the Vietnamese Lunar New Year. The market also gets busy during full moons.

Westlake

We stopped by one of the most prominent lakes in the community. The peaceful ambiance was just so lovely compared to Hanoi’s busy old quarter. Locals were practicing Taichi on the sidewalks and & jogging on the road. Partygoers still were enjoying their drinks with the lake view, while a Fisherman was pulling his fishing rod for his first catch.

Ba Dinh Square

HCMM

Arriving at 6 am, we came to experience the moment when the flag was raised and the national anthem being performed by military soldiers in white uniform.

Interestingly, during the moment of flag salutation rituals, Ba Dinh Square resumes to a popular place where locals and tourists gather: women exercise in groups and families have a morning picnic.

Ba Dinh square is an important place where the nation annually holds the celebrations such as military parades, the commemoration of veterans, meeting..etc.

Breakfast

There’s not a better way to end a tour than to eat Pho at Pho Gia Truyen. We waited 15 minutes to order a rich broth of beef noodles topped with fresh herbs.

The stock is so wholesome and protein-rich you feel yourself enjoying every slurp until your bowl is empty.

You have to get up early hours to catch Hanoi at its best.  If you don’t you’ll never see it. So get out there and start exploring while everyone is asleep. Don’t worry, when you return to your hotel at 8 am, you’ll have lots of time to sleep as I did.
