Hello guys! I hope all is well and everyone is having a fantastic September. It’s about time to say good bye to the sizzling summer and welcome my favourite season. Autumn. I’m hoping for cooler weather and lots of layers to come. In this post I’d like to share one of my adventures from my trip to Seoul.  I visited this really cute mural village in Jongno-gu, a quaint neighbourhood well hidden in Seoul.  Along the streets that wind through the somewhat still-dilapidated homes are a collection of art instillation, sculptures, murals, and signboards created by over seventy different artists.  There are some rather creative pieces strewn throughout the park’s footpaths, and while some of them were in plain sight, I found delight in noticing the more obscure ones that required a bit of effort to find.  I particularly liked the sculptures that looked out over the city. Their silhouettes set against the skyline of Seoul was art within art and are really something to see. I was informed by my tour guide that these villages were where refugees squatted after the end of the Korean War in the 1950s. Artists chose to give a makeover for these Dal dong nae to preserve historic districts threatened by rapid high-rise development. As you take a turn to a seemingly dead end street and spot an empty staircase decorated with a beautiful aquatic scene or you reach the end of a cul-de-sac and see sheds and outhouses dressed up as though they are post offices and businesses for tiny people, dolls sitting at an outside table in the sun enjoying their cups of tea. It is also home to some of the cutest cafes I had seen around Seoul. There’s also this ice cream shop with a yellow door. Cute illustrations and potted plants also decorated the walls and the exterior. After seeing every mural, we explored the lower side of Naksan Park. When you need a high spot overlooking Seoul, this is the perfect place to go.
Thank you for reading! I look forward to sharing more of my travel adventures with you all.
Have a lovely week head!
