New Year’s in Ho Chi Minh

Hey guys! I just wanted to update you all from hot and bustling Ho Chi Minh city.
I hope you all are already having a great start to the New Year because I am! I can’t believe it’s been five years since I last came to this high octane city. It is in fact my father’s home and I’m so glad to visit my my ethnic roots. I’ve spent a good few days and for the New Year wandering through timeless alleys to incense-infused temples before negotiating prices at Benh Thanh market.Ho Chi Minh City to me is like a dramatic meeting of old and new culture, a dynamic metropolis of skyscrapers and traffic juxtaposed with an abundance of ancient temples and traditional markets.  With the city’s frenetic energy and the many local gems such as the ‘out of the world’ food and impressive old monuments, it’s hard to leave.

Some great places HCM

Lose yourself in Ben Thanh market and experience history, sights, smells, colors and delights. so many vendors and stores you can imagine, selling everything from clothing , foods, drinks ,souvenirs, coffee, tea handicrafts, bags, snacks, daily necessities etc. (Be prepared to haggle prices or get ripped off!)

Take a cooking class to experience the rich history of Vietnamese cuisine and learn how to prepare dishes native to Ho Chi Minh City.

If you’re interested in Vietnamese history, why not take a tour of the War Remnants Museum.

Built between 1877 and 1880, Notre-Dame Cathedral is one of the best examples of the beautiful architectural legacy left behind by the French in Ho Chi Minh City.

Try some mouth watering food at Nha Hang Ngon restaurant.  Food stalls in every corner, you’ll to try everything!

I can’t wait to share more of my photos from my New Year’s trip. How did you spend the New Year?
