What to Wear For Christmas | Outlanderly

Dress up and bring on the compliments!

In the first month after I moved to Taipei from London, I was invited to a birthday party. My new friend didn’t specify the dress code, but all I knew was the event was held at trendy jazz club.

If you’ve checked out my fashion posts, you’ll know I’m always looking for an excuse to get dolled up, and this celebration seemed the perfect chance to get out my black silky dress I had splurged on. Feeling fabulous and confident in my choice of mid length dress and a pair of black mules, I walked into Brown Sugar in Taipei– and everyone looked as if they were dressed for the pub, and it was a Friday night!

"You can always say that you’ve just come from somewhere fancy or are headed there later"

Perhaps I should have known that dressing up here isn’t a thing, and that’s perfectly ok. Although, what that means is walking around in Taipei in a sequin skirt or a red dress will warrant unwanted stares.

I must admit that used to make me feel really awkward. Now I’ve grown more comfortable wearing whatever my want – and to be honest my style hasn’t changed much over the years.

Even if I had known that this venue was casual, I probably would have worn the same thing, but with flats. Anyway, I’d much rather be over-dressed than under-dressed.

This isn’t your typical What to wear for  Christmas post, it’s more like what the F you want for Christmas. Besides Halloween, Christmas has always been a great excuse for me to look like a disco ball. Bring on the funky wigs, retina shattering sequins and luxe fur coats. I’m ready to channel my inner glam goddess! If you ever see a woman in a bright pink wig on the MRT, please come over and say hi 😀

Now, I don’t suggest you walk around with a red gown and 4-inch heels like me. If you fancy wearing a classic Christmas pullover your mum gave you or wear reindeer antler headbands, then why not.

What I will suggest is, wear whatever makes you feel good and comfortable, even if you’ll be turning heads. Looking your best will have you feeling your best, and you’ll have fun!

I could walk around the grocery store in this dress and 4 inch heels with a shopping basket in my hand.
